Hummingbirds are fabulously colourful birds from the neotropical areas of south and central America.
Prints of this age were originally printed in black ink and then a team of artists would hand colour each print to match the natural colours of the bird.
These prints are attributed to Sir William Jardine, 7th Baronet of Applegarth (23 February 1800 – 21 November 1874), who was a Scottish naturalist. He is also known for his editing of a long series of natural history books, The Naturalist's Library.
