The secrets of Hotel Bedroom Chic

“Luxury hotel bedroom.” It’s a phrase that instantly conjures up an image of stylish interiors, intimate lighting, sumptuous soft furnishings and extravagant little details. But it doesn’t have to end when you check out. Follow our  guide and you can create your own little slice of luxury in your own five star boudoir.

Step 1 – Luxurious Linen.

If there’s one thing that says luxury hotel it’s quality bed linen. Buy the best you can afford. Consider it an investment rather than a luxury as it will pay you back in spades. As my dear old mum used to say, never skimp on bedlinen or shoes because when you’re not in one your likely to be in the other. Wise woman, my mum.

Look for classic white Egyptian cotton such as our 1000tc Dorchester range or perhaps take the contemporary route with our 100% French Linen range from Biggie Best (but only if you can live with the crumpled, deconstructed look!). How about going for the best of both worlds with our Portofino Linen Union 55% linen/45% cotton range. Whatever you go for, pair your choice with quality bamboo pillows, textured scatter cushions and oversize bed runners to give an instant hotel chic look that will make you want to spend the day in bed.

Step 2 – Go big.

Add some drama to your room with an oversize bed and headboard. A Super King or Queen size bed says luxury from the off. Be brave. Use colour and texture to its full effect. Sumptuous fabrics such as crushed velvet or shot silk combined with buttoned upholstery add luxury.

Step 3 – Love your bedside table.

There’s only one rule that really applies here – less is more. The less clutter, the better. A bedside table with drawers will allow you to hide away a multitude of sins leaving your table top free to host nothing more than the essentials – a suitable lamp, maybe the odd book or two, your alarm clock and perhaps a water carafe and glass. If you want to go even more minimal, consider using a pair of our leather-bound butler’s tray tables to either side. Classy.

Step 4 – Colour it in.

Whilst neutrals are always popular and calming, the overall effect can be a little boring. Adding an accent colour can enhance the whole scheme. A dark, vintage colour such as Farrow & Ball Hague Blue No. 30 works well with whites, blues and greys and adds depth and opulence to a room. It also works well as a backdrop for brass fittings and accessories in a bathroom.

Step 5 – Window Dressing

Sheer fabrics with subtly gleaming surface add sophisticated glamour, especially in pale shades. Combine complimentary material to create a seamless multi-layered, multi-functional window treatment. Don’t underestimate the importance of blackout linings to ensure darkness. Darkness equates to intimacy.

Step 6 – Go Tactile

Don’t underestimate the power of texture in a bedroom. Try to create a range of contrasting yet complimentary textures. Offset the rough with the soft, the shiny with the matt and the coarse with the smooth and you’ll create depth and interest. Pair textures like cottons, linens, leather, voiles, velvet, wood and metal. Cow hide or Reindeer hide rugs add a sense of warmth and luxury.

Don’t be afraid to use the fabric of the building if it lends itself to the desired look. An exposed stone wall or a previously hidden ceiling beam can add real interest. Use an old fireplace as a feature with candles or even stacked with logs.

Step 7 – Light it right

Lighting can make or break any scheme. Take care to plan your scheme to include task lights for reading or putting on make-up and ambient or mood lighting to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere. A simple dimmer switch can have an amazing impact.

Step 8 – Storage

Nothing detracts from your desired hotel chic look more than clothes scattered around on their way to the laundry basket or piles of bedlinen awaiting storage or use. Try to keep everything squared away and your bedroom will have that calm, relaxed feel to it. A storage ottoman is good purchase as it also adds a seating option to the room

Step 9 – Treat Yourself.

Accessorise the room with thick towelling robes. Wall mount that flat screen TV and pop a wireless speaker such as our Gingko Halo One Bluetooth Speaker that you can control from your mobile and stream any song you can think of. Similarly, a NETFLIX subscription will give you access to pretty much every movie you can think of. Why not set up your own ‘hospitality tray’ with tea, coffee and treats? You could go the whole hog and put a mini fridge to keep drinks chilled. Finish the look with the odd glossy magazine strategically placed and then just kick back and enjoy your own five star retreat.
